Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has announced 1,533 new coronavirus infections, bringing total COVID-19 cases in the country to 406,926 since the outbreak began in February 2020.
Across the country, the ministry reported 29 new fatalities in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide total to 22,289.
The Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) and the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) program provided over 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Egypt on Thursday.
The acting health minister said during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday that Egypt has obtained 132 million doses of various coronavirus vaccines, of which 36.6 million first doses and 24.1 million second doses have been administered.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s health ministry warned citizens against people claiming to work for the ministry and tricking them into disclosing personal information.
A spokesperson for the Cabinet’s media information centre commented on reports of fraudulent phone calls that collect people’s personal information and claim to have them registered for the coronavirus vaccine, saying that the Ministry of Health has been notified.
The Health Ministry warned citizens that such calls aim to exploit or blackmail people by using their personal data.
It encouraged citizens to report the phone numbers of people who claim to be from its offices in order to take all legal measures against them.
