Authorities in Mali have expelled French Journalist Benjamin Roger within 24 hours of arriving in the country.
This comes exactly one week after Mali announced that it would be harder for foreign journalists to obtain press accreditation into the country.
Authorities arrested and expelled Roger on Monday afternoon February 7 after arriving at his hotel room in Bamako on Sunday night.
Roger has been covering the Sahel region in the last ten years and had arrived at Mali on assignment for Jeune Afrique, a French-Language, Pan-African weekly news magazine that specialises in covering African stories.
He had a visa to enter the country but Authorities said he did not have press accreditation.
Reporters Without Borders, an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation with the aim of safeguarding the right to freedom of information, have condemned the decision of the Malian Government to expel the journalist.
