The Moroccan army is in talks with the Ukrainian Armor to buy a squadron of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) Varta vehicles, according to Tactical Report.
According to Army Recognition, another website that focuses on the defence industry, a Moroccan army delegation visited a personal protection equipment manufacturer called Ukrainian Armor in December 2020.
“During this visit, the Ukrainian company has conducted a live demonstration to demonstrate combat capabilities of MRAP Varta and SAV Novator armoured vehicles, 60 mm, 82 mm, and 12 mm mortar and ammunition,” the website added.
MRAP Varta vehicles are fully equipped to transport soldiers in combat zones and can also be equipped to evacuate troops if required.
The company states that the vehicle’s compartments are made from “specialised steel grade 560 that protects the crew from armoured piercing incendiary ammunition.”
The report about the potential new deal between Morocco and Ukraine comes as Rabat looks to upgrade its military equipment and personnel.
According to the Moroccan budget for 2022, about $12.8 billion will be spent on the purchase and repair of equipment and weapons for the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces.
