Separatists in Cameroon on Friday, razed down a renowned girls’ school dormitory Queen of the Rosary College, Okoyong in Mamfe city.
English-speaking separatists, Ambazonia Restoration Forces(ARF) have claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they punished the school for preparing to take part in National Youth Day activities organised by the Central Government in Yaoundé.
The incident has sparked tension across most parts of the Central African country, with most parents withdrawing their children from the school.
In a viral video which emerged online, voices of the assailants were heard ordering students to open the doors of their dormitories. The Separatists forced their way into the dormitory, razing beds, dressers and furniture.
However, none of the 142 female students in the Roman Catholic Church institution in Mamfe, an English-speaking southwestern town, died during the incident.
Responding to the attack, Authorities in Cameroon have assured parents of the children’s safety, stating that troops have been deployed to arrest the Separatists.
