Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has delivered the State of the Province Address. Ntombela’s SOPA comes amid the challenges of rising unemployment levels, poverty and poor road infrastructure in the province.
Ntombela says the state of municipalities in the province remains dire. Ntombela, who’s been delivering the State of the Province Address in Bloemfontein, explained that they are working around the clock to stem the crisis.
She says climate change and rising temperatures and severe flares, they’ve therefore set up modalities to mitigate the adverse effects of these climate changes through a focus on green economy, training and infrastructural management by injecting well over R50 million for upgrades on gravel roads and the Pothole Repair Programme.
“Besides job creation, our townships revitalisation program is equally facilitating local development program. Twelve township roads will be completed and launched at the end of this financial year. Two hundred and thirty-seven jobs have been created as the results of the township revitalisation program. And 300 job opportunities will be created through this intervention,” she said.
Ntombela said one of the worst challenges facing the province is unemployment, especially among the young people. Ntombela was referring to comments and inputs her office received from members of the public prior to the State of the Province Address.
The State of the Province Address is an important platform for the government to update citizens on what has been achieved and communicate its priorities for the year ahead.
