The Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad Salah Eddin al-Sadek during a Sunday phone interview with Ahmed Moussa on Moussa’s TV program “Ala Massoulity” (By My Responsibility) on Sada El Balad Channel.
Sadek revealed that an Egyptian man Mohamed Saad Ragab Mohamed Zayed from al-Beheira governorate was injured in Ukraine during the current war between Moscow and Kiev.
Zayed was visiting Ukraine to join his wife before she gave birth. As the conflict broke out,he had to leave the safe areas and was spotted by a helicopter and hit by two bullets in the back. His condition remains stable.
Sadek added that he contacted his family through the embassy to reassure them about his health. He further explained that Ragab’s wife safely gave birth to his daughter. Ragab had arrived in Ukraine 20 days ago, before the conflict broke out.
The Minister assured that the Egyptian embassy is playing a great role in keeping the Egyptians there safe. So far, about 100 Egyptians have crossed to Poland and about 120 people to Romania.
He stressed that the most crucial advice for Egyptians in the eastern region is to not move if they are in safe locations unless extreme necessity demands.
Many nationalities have fathered on the western borders, he noted. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland have opened their borders on the western borders of Ukraine to receive the refugees, he added.
The crossing is priority for families, and he advised those stranded in this region to communicate with the embassy in order to deal with any crisis they face in this regard, stressing that there is an operations room in the Foreign Ministry to follow up on the development of the situation in Ukraine 24 hours a day.
