Five persons died after being buried alive in a trench while helping a friend build a house ahead of his wedding in Nigeria‘s northern Kano state.
Reports say the victims were digging for sand in Yanlami village when part of the trench collapsed.
According to Kano State Fire Service spokesman Saminu Yusuf, the deceased who were buried alive under the building rubble are between the ages of 22 and 35.
“All victims were rescued unconscious and confirmed dead.
“The victims were handed over to the police officer, Aminu Idris of Bichi police division, and village head of Yanlami,” he said.
Yanlami village was thrown into deep mourning following the death of the young men. They have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
