Cameroon international Joel Matip has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Month for February 2022, while Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe took home Manager of the Month.
Thanks to his contributions at the back and at the top end of the pitch for Liverpool in their four February wins.
Joel Matip becomes the first Cameroonian to win the award, which was well deserved after a stellar month in which he played every minute of Premier League football.
Here are some of Matips’s high points in the month of February 2022
Games Played: 4
Minutes Played: 360
Goals: 1
Assists: 1
Touches: 381
Tackles: 5
Interceptions: 18
Blocks: 4
Completed Passes: 305
Progressive Carries: 46
Matip stood out for more than just his defensive qualities and showed his capacity to hold his ground further up the pitch.
With 27 caps for the Indomitable Lions, including playing at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, several coaches in recent years have unsuccessfully tried to persuade him to make a comeback.
