News Central TV has been recognised by the Action Against Fake News (AAFN) for its steadfast dedication to fighting misinformation and upholding transparent journalism. The prestigious award was presented to the Managing Director, Mr. Kayode Akintemi, along with other Directors of News Central, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the station’s headquarters.
Leading the award presentation, the National President of AAFN, Comrade Babatunde Ashafa, commended Mr. Akintemi and his team for their outstanding contributions to responsible journalism. “Truth remains the ultimate measure of credible news,” Comrade Ashafa stated, highlighting the pervasive threat of fake news, particularly in this region.
As part of the ceremony, Mr. Akintemi received the Legacy Award, alongside AAFN’s innovative Fake News Album and a Subscriber Booklet that outlines the organisation’s ongoing efforts to combat misinformation through policy implementation and advocacy.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Akintemi expressed gratitude to the Governing Council of AAFN, emphasising that the recognition was a reflection of the collective efforts of the News Central team. He reaffirmed the station’s unwavering commitment to fighting misinformation and promoting truth in journalism.
With fake news continuing to undermine public discourse and democratic processes, AAFN remains dedicated to advancing media literacy and empowering journalists. The award presented to News Central reflects the role that ethical journalism plays in fostering an informed and resilient society.
