Embattled cop, Abba Kyari, has been denied bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The Deputy Commissioner, currently facing charges of drug trafficking, had applied for bail pending the conclusion of his trial.
Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, ruled that the bail application lacked merit. He added that Kyari, who is suspended from duty, did not demonstrate any exceptional circumstances that would justify the court granting him bail.
The judge noted that a previous bail application by Abba Kyari had already been dismissed and ordered an expedited hearing of the case. Judge Nwite emphasised that no evidence was presented to warrant the court reversing its earlier decision.
As a result, the court rejected the application and allowed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to proceed with prosecuting Kyari and his co-defendants in the case.
