Three activists from Zimbabwe’s main opposition party who went missing a day after taking part in a protest over food shortages on Wednesday have been found. Party members insist that the police and other security agencies are responsible for their abduction.

Local media reports on Friday said the activists, youth members of the MDC Alliance, were found dumped in the North East of the capital, Harare.

MDC–Alliance deputy national spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka confirmed this development.

“The three missing MDC cadres Hon. Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were found early this morning after being badly beaten up and dumped at Muchapondwa shops in Musana, Bindura south. They are in very bad shape and they have given horrendous accounts of their torture and abuse in the hands of their abductors.

“Two of them, Hon. Mamombe and Netsai Marova experience difficulty in walking and the third Cecilia Chimbiri has made complaints of severe pains in the head. They are currently being checked into a medical facility in the presence of lawyers and the police” said Tamborinyoka.

The southern African country has seen stiff opposition to ruling governments for decades.
