The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, urging him to address their demands or face what they have described as the “deadliest shutdown” of hospitals in Abuja.
Dr George Ebong, President of the ARD, made this appeal during a press conference held at Wuse District Hospital, Abuja, on Monday.
While commending Minister Wike for his commitment to infrastructural development in the FCT, Dr Ebong emphasised the urgent need to prioritise the welfare of doctors, who he said are struggling under severe economic hardship.
“First we have to appreciate the minister for his infrastructural development in the FCT since his emergence.
“We want him to know that doctors is an abandoned project. While he fixes the infrastructural abandoned project, we are the human abandoned projects,” Dr Ebong stated.
He urged the minister to extend the same level of attention given to physical infrastructure to human development, highlighting the critical role of healthcare professionals in the nation’s capital.
Dr Ebong stressed that the minister has 14 days to act on their demands, warning that failure to do so could result in an unprecedented shutdown of hospitals across Abuja.
“We believe the minister has the capacity to address these challenges and avert a crisis,” he concluded.
