An eyewitness reported that the explosion at Sani Uthman Islamiyya School, Kuchibuyi Village, in Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was caused by a bomb brought to school by a student on Monday.
The blast claimed two lives, including the student who brought the explosive, and injured two others. The tragic incident occurred as the student from Katsina State was showing the device to another child.
The three-classroom block, built for nomadic education, was sealed off by FCT police following the explosion.
The FCT Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated in a Monday release that preliminary investigations linked three visitors from Katsina to the device. Two of the men died while tampering with the IED on the school veranda.
The police have detained the school owner for questioning and urged the public to report suspicious items or behaviour. Investigations are ongoing.
