The FCT Police Command reported on Saturday that a herbalist who attempted to test himself against a firearm has suffered life-threatening injuries.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, said the disturbing incident occurred in Kuchibuyi Village of the FCT.
“In a misguided effort to verify the efficacy of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the abdominal area with a shotgun.
“Regrettably, the charm did not provide any protection, leading to life-threatening injuries. Officers from the Byazhin Division responded promptly, arriving at the scene to discover Usman in critical condition.
“He was swiftly taken to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care and transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for additional treatment.
“Following the incident, police conducted an exhaustive search of Usman’s residence, recovering the homemade firearm and various charms used in his reckless endeavour.
Adeh said investigations are underway, with Usman expected to face charges for illegal possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, stressing the dangers of illegal firearms possession.
