A Kaduna-bound train from Abuja derailed at Asha Station in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving many passengers stranded on Wednesday.
News Central gathered that the train derailed at about 3:52 PM, less than 30 minutes after it left Kubwa Station in Abuja.
According to the Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Bimbo Olawumi, the incident occurred at 3:52pm, shortly after the train departed the Kubwa station in the nation’s capital.
She further stated that the derailed part of the train was detached and the train departed the scene of the incident at about 6:54pm and arrived at the Idu station with all passengers on board.
A passenger said: “Passengers are currently stranded as there are no signs of authorities being notified.”
This derailment is the second in two weeks that the train has run off its tracks. On May 26, a train that departed Rigasa Station in Kaduna for Abuja derailed in a mountainous area near Jere, causing three carriages to go off track. However, there were no casualties.
Security operatives reached the scene in good time to protect the stranded passengers and offer support.
