Abuja Metro Line Ready For Commercial Operations on May 27 —Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has announced that the Abuja Metro Line is ready for commercial operations. Wike disclosed this after a thorough inspection of the project on Monday.

He assured FCT residents that the $15 million project light rail, widely known as the Abuja Metro Line, would be launched for commercial operations by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 27.

He said the Abuja metro line is a fulfilment of the promise made by President Tinubu to deliver the metro line within his first year in office; a testimony of his  “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“We are doing well because Mr President has given us every necessary support. Assuming we are not getting support from him, this would not have been a reality today,” he said.

Despite the success of the light rail, Wike identified some facilities like air conditioning in the passenger waiting room and elevator were omitted in the project design.

He added that access roads that will link communities to the train stations have been constructed.

The light rail project was designed originally to solve transportation challenges and ease heavy traffic in the Federal Capital Territory.
