AC Milan boosted their chances of securing European football next season with a crucial 3-1 comeback victory over Bologna in Serie A on Friday. The win, which served as a timely confidence boost ahead of their Italian Cup final clash next week, saw goals from Santiago Gimenez—who netted twice—and Christian Pulisic overturn an early deficit.

Bologna had initially taken the lead shortly after half-time through Riccardo Orsolini, who bagged his 13th goal of the season with a powerful strike. However, Milan responded swiftly, with Gimenez drawing them level before Pulisic and a second from the Mexican forward sealed all three points.

The result marked Milan’s third consecutive league win and moved them up to eighth place, just three points adrift of Juventus, Roma, and Lazio, who are all tied in fourth with only two matches remaining in the season. The battle for the final Champions League places remains tight, with Atalanta, currently five points ahead of the trio, in pole position to secure one of the remaining slots.

While league leaders Napoli and Inter Milan have already secured qualification for Europe’s top competition, Bologna—two points ahead of Milan in seventh—remain in the hunt for back-to-back Champions League appearances. They are also eyeing their first major silverware in over half a century as they prepare to face Milan again in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final.
