AC Milan delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Empoli on Saturday at a foggy San Siro, closing the gap to Serie A’s European spots to just three points.
The Rossoneri were inspired by Tijjani Reijnders, who netted a brace, and Alvaro Morata, who ended his two-month league goal drought with a clinical strike. Reijnders’ stunning efforts on either side of halftime took his season tally to six goals, showcasing his growing influence in Milan’s midfield.
The win lifts AC Milan to seventh place with 22 points, three behind Juventus in the Conference League spot. Milan manager Paulo Fonseca praised his side’s dominant display.
Despite their current position, Reijnders expressed optimism about Milan’s title chances, stating, “Of course, we’re thinking about it, because we want to fight for titles and the position where we are now is not what we want.”
Empoli, who started the match boasting one of Serie A’s strongest defences, remain 10th and continued their goal drought at the San Siro, failing to score in their last five visits.
Elsewhere in Serie A, Bologna edged closer to AC Milan, defeating Venezia 3-0 to sit just one point behind. Meanwhile, Como and Monza played out a 1-1 draw, keeping both teams entrenched in the relegation zone. Genoa, currently 17th, will aim to widen the gap when they face Udinese on Sunday.
AC Milan now turn their attention to next weekend’s clash with high-flying Atalanta, a fixture that could shape their European ambitions.
