AC Milan Stun Real Madrid 3-1 as Mbappe’s Struggles Continue

Defending Champions League holders Real Madrid suffered a shocking 3-1 defeat at home to AC Milan on Tuesday, as Kylian Mbappe’s struggles in front of goal continued.

Madrid were first to concede when Malick Thiaw’s header gave Milan the lead in the 12th minute. Despite a penalty equaliser from Vinicius Junior, who scored with a cheeky Panenka after being fouled by Emerson Royal, Madrid couldn’t capitalise. Instead, former Madrid striker Álvaro Morata put Milan back in the lead just before halftime, firing home after a save from Andriy Lunin.

Madrid, who have struggled defensively in recent weeks, found themselves further behind in the second half when Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders capitalised on a brilliant solo run by Rafael Leão to make it 3-1.

Mbappe, who has now gone six matches with just one goal, was once again ineffective for Madrid. His efforts were thwarted by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who made crucial saves to prevent a comeback. Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger thought he had scored late on, but his goal was ruled offside after a tight VAR decision.

Milan’s collective work rate proved too much for Madrid, who have now conceded nine goals in their last three home matches. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is under increasing pressure to resolve his team’s defensive woes, as they face Liverpool next at Anfield.

For Milan, the win was a statement of intent, with Morata emphasising the importance of sacrifice and teamwork. With the victory, Milan leapfrogged Madrid in the table, leaving the reigning champions with much to reflect on as they aim to regroup.
