Achraf Hakimi, Morocco national team and Paris Saint Germain right back has a stadium named after him at his hometown of Ksar el-Kebir in northwestern Morocco.

The Achraf Hakimi Stadium was named after the nation’s FIFA World Cup heroes. Hakimi was met with a huge crowd when he landed before appearing at the stadium.

“I am so happy to be with you today. I thank all the town of Ksar Lkbir. I am very happy to see the mayor of the city, who did good things. We keep on working for the good of Morocco’s culture and we have to keep working for the good of Moroccans. I am happy here. This is my mother’s town, and I spent a lot of time here when I was a kid. Thank you everybody,” Achraf Hakimi said.

Morocco’s Atlas Lions reached the FIFA World Cup semi-finals before being ousted by France. Achraf Hakimi put up a remarkable display in Qatar, scoring a panenka to seal Morocco’s shock win over Spain, which represented Morocco’s first-ever qualification for the tournament’s quarterfinals.

He is recognised as one of the top right-backs in the world due to his speed, runs, and goal-scoring ability. Achraf Hakimi was a product of Real Madrid’s youth system in 2016 and was promoted to the main squad in 2017, where he played a few minutes. He was loaned out to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for two years, winning the DFL-Supercup in 2019.

Following a successful loan with Dortmund, Achraf Hakimi joined Serie A side Inter Milan for a reported sum of €40 million, with his performances assisting the club in winning the league title, breaking the club’s eleven-year title drought.

His performances piqued the interest of several European clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly paying €60 million to recruit him in 2021.
