Atalanta defeated Empoli 2-0 in a Serie A match at Carlo Castellani Stadium on Sunday, with Ademola Lookman scoring in the second half.
Atalanta dominated the away game from the start and took the lead in the 32nd minute when Hans Hateboer finished off a sweeping play past Guglielmo Vicario. Lookman, 25, then doubled Atalanta’s lead in the 59th minute after dribbling past three players and shooting the ball past Vicario.
In the last five Serie A matches, the Super Eagle has scored four goals. In total, he has five goals in 12 games. He has one assist and scored his first goal of the season on August 13 in a 2-0 win over Sampdoria.
Lookman has been a vital player for manager Gian Piero Gasperini since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig at the start of the season, following the expiry of his loan deal with Leicester City in the Premier League.
Against Empoli, he had six shots on goal, two critical passes, did not win any aerial balls, and had 44 touches. Lookman was substituted by Caleb Okoli in the 89th minute.
When Atalanta takes on Serie A leaders Napoli at Gewiss Stadium next Saturday, Lookman will square off against his Nigerian rival Victor Osimhen, who is having a fantastic season with the Partenopei.
