During an attack by ADF Rebels on a community in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, insurgents killed fourteen people.
Local authorities reported that late on Saturday, ADF, militia entered Kyamata in the Ituri province and used machetes to slaughter residents there.
Over 30 homes were set on fire. During a ceremony on Sunday, the victims were interred in a single grave. The lack of soldiers in the area was blamed by locals for the attack.
One of the rebel organisations operating in eastern Congo is the ADF. A year ago, the Ugandan military attacked the ADF, but the attacks have since persisted.
Meanwhile, last week, a helicopter crashed on more than a dozen Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), killing them.
Also recall that in August, more than 800 prisoners fled from an eastern DRC prison after gunmen staged a jailbreak in which two policemen were killed.
During the jailbreak, all but 49 of the 872 inmates had escaped, according to a prison service source who spoke on the record under the condition of anonymity.
