Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has laid out his plans for the upcoming match against Guinea-Bissau in the ongoing AFCON 2023 tournament.
During a press conference, Peseiro expressed his optimism and expectations for the forthcoming game against Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
“After the winning spirit against the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, on the 18th of January, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are expected to continue the race with the same fighting spirit against their opponent, Guinea-Bissau,” he stated.
With confidence in his voice, the head coach emphasised the team’s need to improve with both the ‘same confidence and more confidence.’ Peseiro underscored the importance of commitment, emphasising that players cannot afford to relax at this crucial stage of the competition.
Responding to questions about the Guinea-Bissau team, José Peseiro acknowledged the strength of the opponent, describing them as a great team with talented players. However, he affirmed that his responsibility is to think and plan effectively for the next match.
“We have to play with commitment, capacity, and full of confidence,” he asserted.
Regarding injuries, the coach revealed that Alhassan Yusuf won’t be available for the next match, but he expressed confidence in the team’s reliability and numerous replacements. Peseiro emphasised his continuous focus on planning and preparing for the upcoming game.
Discussing the team’s formation, Peseiro highlighted the dynamic nature of each match, stating, “We can change our strategy based on the match we have.”
Kenneth Omeruo, a veteran of the Super Eagles team, shared his thoughts on the previous game against Cote d’Ivoire, describing it as both interesting and challenging.
‘’There is no easy game. A lot of big teams are struggling to win hence the need for Nigeria to focus on the next game,’’ Omeruo remarked.
He stressed the importance of player focus, urging them to approach the next game with seriousness. Referring to the Super Eagles’ slogan, “Let’s Do It Again,” Omeruo expressed confidence that the squad can emerge victorious in the AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire. He acknowledged the coach’s significant impact on the players’ concentration levels.
