The 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has left the continent in a bitter-sweet excitement as expected names are currently battling for the Golden Boot Prize of the tournament.
Ahead of the pack is Equatorial Guinea’s Emilio Nsue who is currently leading with five goals. While Egypt’s Mostafa Mohamed and Angola’s Gelson Dala trail with four goals each.
The 34th edition of the tournament is hosted by Ivory Coast with big names in World football such as the current African Best Player Victor Osimhen, Cameroonian forward Vincent Aboubakar, Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Egypt’s Mohammed Salah, lined up as favourites.
With Equatorial Guinea and Egypt knocked out of AFCON 2023, the Golden Boot award is up for grabs as Nigeria, Angola, Cape Verde, South Africa, Mali, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, and Guinea press on for the Quarter Finals.
While Nigeria will face Angola, Cape Verde will face South Africa as Mali will battle it out with Ivory Coast.
DR Congo will also be slugging it out with Guinea in a crunchy tie as the race for the continental trophy continues.
Algeria’s Baghdad Bounedjah, Burkina Faso’s Bertrand Traoré, and Mali’s Sinayoko are also in the AFCON Golden Boot race with three goals each.
Angola’s Mabululu Paciência is equally racing for glory with three goals also. Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Senegal’s Lamine Camara, South Africa’s Themba Zwane, Ghana’s Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus, and Cape Verde’s Mendes da Graça are in the contest with two goals respectively.
