The coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has said he expects a tough game from his South African Bafana Bafana opponents as they battle at the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The clouds have gathered as Nigeria is set to face South Africa, while hosts Ivory Coast and Gabon fight it out for a spot at the final.
Speaking of the AFCON semifinal clash, Peseiro, said, “We’re doing a good job. With good organisation and good commitment, we play like a team together.
“It will be a tough match against a good national team.
“We want to beat South Africa to reach the final. For that, we have to play a high-level match against a South African team that eliminated Morocco, who did a fantastic World Cup.” Peseiro said.
“We must play 100% or more to beat a very good team,” he added, “I believe that we can win this competition.
“But they also want to win AFCON, just like us.”
The Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana will resume their rivalry on Wednesday in Bouaké’s Stade de la Paix as they compete for a spot.
South Africa will be eager to break their losing streak against Nigeria at the AFCON after their 2-0 loss in the 2000 semifinals, 4-0 loss in 2004, and elimination from the tournament in 2019 after a 2-1 loss in the last eight.
