William Ruto, the president-elect of Kenya, has received congratulations from several African leaders including Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari for winning the general election.
The Kenyan people’s peaceful and transparent election results are another example of how the democratic process, values, and principles continue to be the best means for people to choose their leaders and hold them responsible. The President commends the Kenyan people for these qualities.
Based on a long history of friendship, economic and trade ties, and successful collaboration through international organisations like the African Union, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth, President Buhari claims that Nigeria values Kenya as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
The President hopes for more beneficial and robust exchanges between the two nations on common priorities including advancing democracy, economic prosperity, and social development while wishing Deputy President Ruto a good inauguration and term in office.
The president of Nigeria also commends President Uhuru Kenyatta for his statesmanship and exemplary leadership shown to the Kenyan people over the course of the last nine years, as well as for the significant contributions made by his administration to infrastructure, education, healthcare reforms, tourism, and regional security.
Also, President Emerson Mnangagwa has congratulated the Kenya’s President-elect Ruto. Mnangagwa sent his congratulatory message to Ruto via Twitter Monday evening.
He tweeted; “Congratulations to @WilliamsRuto on his election as the next President of Kenya. I have no doubt he will serve his country, his people and our continent with distinction.”
The University of Nairobi. UoN also extended its felicitations to the new President-elect in a statement.
“The University of Nairobi wishes to congratulate its alumni, President-elect Dr. William Samoei Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua!” UoN said in a tweet.
The former President of Somalia Mohammed Farmaajo also lauded the president-elect.
“I wish to offer my most sincere congratulations to President-Elect of Kenya H.E. William Ruto and the people of Kenyan following the successful conclusion of the elections. You truly ran an enriching, overpowering campaign and May God help you fulfill your vision for your country,” he said.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali was the third African leader to praise the UDA leader for being elected. Ahmed wished Ruto well in his new mandate.
“My congratulations to William Ruto, on your election as the President of the Republic of Kenya. I wish you luck in your endeavors ahead,” he said.
Ahmed added, “We look forward to working closely with you on common bilateral and regional interests.”
