African leaders have congratulated Brazil’s incoming president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who won a presidential run-off, along with other world leaders.

Lula’s win, according to Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, was made possible by his tenacity, humility, and belief in justice.

He described the victory as a brave effort by Brazilians in the direction of a more powerful and just nation.

William Ruto, the president of Kenya, expressed his desire for improved ties with Brazil. He said “Congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on your election victory. Kenya looks forward to closer relations with Brazil for the prosperity of our citizens.”

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, expressed a similar outlook. Ramaphosa said; “Congratulations to Mr Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva @LulaOficial on his successful election to the position of President of the Republic of Brazil. South Africa looks forward to working with the government of Brazil under the leadership of Mr da Silva.

“Our two countries share a number of common challenges and aspirations, and we cooperate at various levels including BRICS and numerous country-to-country, inter-regional and global mechanisms.

“We also congratulate the people of Brazil for the successful manner in which they have conducted this election.”

World leaders have also congratulated the new president-elect. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz congratulated Lula, saying he looked forward to cooperating with Lula, especially on the topics of trade and climate protection.

“Brazil is an important strategic partner for Germany and a key player in overcoming the global challenges of our time,” said Scholz.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief on Monday congratulated Brazil’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on winning a divisive runoff election.

“Brazilian citizens went to the polls to elect their new president in a peaceful and well-organized election,” Josep Borrell tweeted.

US President Joe Biden congratulated Lula for winning the “free, fair and credible” presidential election against Bolsonaro.

“I send my congratulations to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his election to be the next president of Brazil following free, fair, and credible elections,” Biden said in a statement.
