The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued an arrest warrant for Isabel dos Santos, a millionaire in her own right and the daughter of Angola’s former president.
According to the official document, Angola’s public prosecutors asked INTERPOL to “find, arrest, and extradite” dos Santos.
Isabel Santos, who is 49 years old, was accused of stealing, lying, buying and selling influence, and laundering money. All of these crimes were listed in the same document.
Her father’s administration was plagued by claims of corruption, including one from Angola in 2020 that she and her husband had diverted $1 billion in public monies to firms in which they owned holdings, including oil company Sonangol.
Isabel has categorically denied any criminality.
The arrest warrant states the businesswoman frequently travels to Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.
Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Isabel dos Santos’ father, controlled Angola for nearly four decades before his death in July of this year.
