The Inspector General of Police of Nigeria, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is participating in the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) meeting in Algiers, Algeria.
The event, which runs from October from 29 to October 30, 2024, brings together police chiefs from 51 African nations to address regional security challenges and strengthen cooperation.
The 12th edition of the AFRIPOL Steering Committee aims to discuss key issues such as terrorism and its funding, human trafficking, and cybercrime—threats that transcend national borders.
According a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Acp Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja on Tuesday, the meeting seeks to develop practical solutions and foster collaboration among African police agencies to combat these security challenges more effectively.
IGP Egbetokun is attending in his capacity as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs’ Committee (WAPCCO).
Speaking at the event, the Police Chief emphasised the importance of regional integration in addressing security threats and cross-border crimes, particularly along Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring countries.
The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) intends to use insights from these deliberations to implement strategies aimed at reducing crime and improving security within the country.
