Nigerian-born Afrobeats artist Tems has acquired a stake in Major League Soccer (MLS) team San Diego FC through her company, The Leading Vibe. She makes history as the first African woman to own a part of an MLS team.
Tems, a two-time Grammy Award winner and an Oscar nominee, joins a distinguished group of investors, including World Cup champion Juan Mata.
She shared her enthusiasm about joining San Diego FC, emphasising the club’s focus on creativity, culture, and community.

“I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community,” Tems said.
Tems is part of an impressive roster of investors, featuring World Cup winner Juan Mata and entertainment tycoon Issa Rae, who was recently introduced as a club partner.
She participates in partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm that previously led a group of investors in NBA Africa in 2021.
Tunde Folawiyo, the chairman of Pave Investments, and Kwamena Afful, the founding director, are also included in the San Diego FC ownership group.
