After nearly five years in exile, outspoken Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna arrived in Kenya to a rousing welcome by family, friends, and fans.
Miguna Miguna Arrives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) a few minutes after 6 am on Thursday, October 20.
In his speech after his arrival, the self-styled General thanked Kenyans for voting in President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government in the August 9 General Election.
He was accompanied by heavy security. The lawyer is expected to grace the Mashujaa Day celebration, which will be held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
Earlier, the Canadian-based barrister announced that he will be unveiling a comprehensive blueprint for the Luo Nyanza transformation once he arrives in the country.
Taking to social media, the barrister said he will also attend a party at State House Nairobi following an invitation by his new friend President William Ruto.
Miguna excitedly shared the invitation cards to the two ceremonies. “From the JKIA to #MashujaaDay. Then to State House Kenya. Patriots are Free to be at the JKIA. Freedom is here! Cheers,” said Miguna.
Two former chief justices David Maraga and Commonwealth Special Envoy to the Maldives, Willy Munyoki Mutunga had decried the government’s refusal to allow Miguna Miguna back into the country after several court directives.
The Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes’ Day (“mashujaa” is Swahili for “heroes”), is a national day in Kenya, observed on October 20 as a public holiday to collectively honour all those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s independence or positively contributed in the post independence Kenya.
