A convoy of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was involved in a road crash in the capital, Abuja.
The Wednesday evening accident claimed the lives of two of his security aides attached to him.
It occurred when Jonathan, who is a special envoy of the regional bloc, ECOWAS, was leaving the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his residence in the city.
Ikechukwu Eze, his spokesman, informed reporters that the former president was unaffected by the accident.
Jonathan has conveyed his sincere sorrow for the untimely deaths of the two police officers, according to a statement sent by his spokeswoman.
Eze claimed that the vehicle carrying the police officers was the only one that skidded off the road when the driver lost control, killing the two officers.
Two other policemen sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa has alleged that the former President auto crash on Wednesday evening was an attempted assassination.
In a Twitter thread, Ekpa alleged that the accident was part of a plot to assassinate the former President.
He advised Jonathan to shift his car’s position during convoy movement and to add three more comparable automobiles to his convoy for further protection.
His tweet read, “Goodluck Jonathan’s involvement in an accident yesterday was an attempted assassination. The plan to assassinate Goodluck Jonathan is ongoing by the terrorist government.
“Can the security agents, the road safety give us details of what they believe led to the accident yesterday?
“Those planning to kill Goodluck Jonathan will not stop. Last time the gunmen invaded his house. President Jonathan must change the position of his car during the convoy”s movement, also add 3 more similar cars to his convoys. This is very important to do this for the coming months.”
