Air Force Strikes Separatist IPOB Camps in Eastern Nigeria

Nigerian Air Force Strikes Proscribed IPOB, ESN Camps in East

The Nigerian Air Force has conducted airstrikes on camps housing members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its paramilitary wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Air Force spokesperson Gabriel Gabkwet, in a statement released on Wednesday, confirmed that multiple strikes were carried out on Tuesday at different locations in two eastern states.

These locations were identified as Mother Valley Orsumughu in the Nnewi South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State and Aku Ihube in the Okigwe LGA of Imo State.

Before the operation, Gabkwet stated that troops of the Nigerian Air Force had received intelligence about the planned disruption of civic activities across the South-East by the terrorists.

The operation became possible through collaboration with ground troops and other security agencies, with a focus on locations believed to house the arms and ammunition of the militants.

“The strikes hit the target and were considered successful, evidenced by the fireball and fleeing terrorists at the location, as well as the positive feedback received,” the statement read.

“The NAF and other security agencies remain committed to ensuring the safety and freedom of all Nigerians, regardless of their place of residence, enabling them to conduct their activities without fear or threats.

“While the security agencies are resolute in their determination, the support of all Nigerians to these security agencies remains crucial in defeating these criminal elements whose sole intention is to instill fear and division among the citizenry,” the statement concluded.
