Nigerian energy firm Aiteo has resumed production at its Nembe field in southern Bayelsa state, which produces nearly 50,000 barrels per day (bpd), after successfully stopping an oil leak earlier this week, the company announced.
Aiteo, in partnership with the state oil company NNPC Ltd, reported that the leak occurred on Monday during routine operations in the Nembe area. This region has been heavily polluted by decades of spills, causing significant damage to farming and fishing.
Aiteo’s Group Managing Director, Victor Okoronkwo said “Our dedicated team has worked diligently to address the issues caused by the recent incident and implemented enhanced safety protocols to prevent future occurrences,”
“After a comprehensive evaluation of our operations and infrastructure at the Nembe Swamp Field, we are delighted to confirm the resumption of production activities.” He added.
The Nembe Creek facility, the largest of 11 fields under Oil Mining Lease 29 operated by Aiteo, also produces substantial natural gas that supplies the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant on Bonny Island.
