Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the gubernatorial elections scheduled for November.
Aiyedatiwa garnered a total of 48,569 votes in the polls, defeating Mayowa Akinfolarin who polled 15,343 votes.
The Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, declared the incumbent governor the winner in the early hours of Monday.
Aiyedatiwa won across 203 wards in 16 out of the 18 Local Governments Areas (LGA) in the state with Olusola Oke winning in Ilaje LGA. The Ifelodun LGA elections were cancelled due to violence.
The elections in all 13 wards of the Okitipupa LGA were rescheduled owing to the late arrival of materials. The rescheduled election, held on Sunday, recorded a low voter turnout
Several aspirants had decried the process as a farce, alleging that no elections took place anywhere.
One of the contestants, Folakemi Omogoroye described the elections as a “complete rape of democracy”. She lamented the absence of election officials and voting materials at voting centres, denying her supporters the right to exercise their franchise.
“I am not going to accept it, and now, I am calling for cancellation and if this is not done, maybe we’ll meet in the court,” she said.
Aggrieved party members headed to the party state secretariat to protest what they called a “daylight robbery”.
