The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, says the late Ondo State governor, Olurotimi Akeredolu, was a respecter of the rule of law.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the media aide to the governor, Boniface Onyedi, in the Rivers State capital Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Fubara mourned the former Senior Advocate of Nigeria and expressed shock over the lawyer’s demise.
The Ondo State leader Akeredolu, passed on after battling Leukaemia and prostate cancer, according to family sources.
He died in the early hours of Wednesday at a German hospital where he was receiving medical attention.
A senior government official in Ondo State had confirmed that the governor had drawn his final breath.
Fubara described Akeredolu as one leader with a dedication to the service and well-being of his people, and humanity.
The governor added that news of the Southwest governor’s passing was disturbing as it is a loss to the entire nation and not just Ondo State.
“Chief Rotimi Akeredolu was a fine gentleman, with high respect for the rule of law as a seasoned lawyer.
“In this state of mourning and grief, our prayers are with the family, the government, and the people of Ondo State.”
The Rivers State governor also asked God to comfort his family, the Ondo State government, and its people following the painful exit of the governor.
