Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged President Bola Tinubu to caution “intransigent ministers” in his cabinet who refuse to reply to invitations from the National Assembly.
Akpabio believes such ministers have no place in Tinubu’s cabinet since they are not democratic.
The Senate President made this known on Wednesday when he presented 2025 budget estimates of N49.7 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly.
“Those who disregard the National Assembly’s invitation are not democratic and thus have no place in your government,” Akpabio said Tinubu in front of the whole Senate and House of Representatives.
He emphasised the importance of ministries and presidential appointees responding quickly to the National Assembly’s requests for explanations about their management.
The Senate President stated that legislators have the constitutional authority to take action if they refuse to come before the red and green chambers.
Tinubu was joined at the budget presentation by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, among other key government officials.
The presentation was scheduled for Tuesday but was changed to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
