Akufo-Addo, Ghana President Says, ‘The World Will Miss Buhari’

Akufo-Addo, Ghana President Says, 'The World Will Miss Buhari' (News Central TV)

Africa and the world will miss outgoing Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, according to President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“As leaders, we all have our highs and lows, but I have no doubt that posterity will be kind to Muhammadu Buhari.

“West Africa, Africa, and, indeed, the world will miss his leadership – the leadership of the military ruler turned consummate democrat, who was extremely solicitous of Nigeria and Africa’s interests, and who sought principle in all decisions in which he took,” the President remarked.

In Abuja, Nigeria, he was speaking at the public presentation and launch of two biographies, “State of Repair – How Muhammadu Buhari Tried to Change Nigeria for the Better” by Anthony Goldman and “The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” by Senator Abu Ibrahim.

The two new books discuss President Buhari’s legacies.

It is anticipated that he will leave office on May 29, 2023, when the new government is sworn in.

In a Facebook post, President Akufo-Addo, who presided over the event, congratulated the two authors, an Englishman named Anthony Goldman and a Nigerian senator named Abu Ibrahim, on their diligence and erudition.

He urged African authors, poets, and playwrights to “tell the African story honestly and with flair, and to give praise where it has been earned and criticism where it is warranted.”

Buhari (born December 17, 1942) was elected President of Nigeria in 2015, marking the first time in the country’s history that an opposition candidate took the helm peacefully after years of political turmoil.

In 1984 and 1985, the former military leader served as Nigeria’s Head of State.

Buhari assumed office at a time when jihadist insurgencies were at their peak, with daily reports of abductions and kidnappings.
