Akwa Ibom State has been recognised as the cleanest state in Nigeria, achieving a cumulative score of 72 percent in the five-year project review known as STONE Pro-Max 2023.
The National Coordinator/Secretary of the National Technical Study Group (NTSG) on Clean Up Nigeria, Prince Ene Baba Owoh, presented the award in Uyo, congratulating the government and people of Akwa Ibom for their outstanding cleanliness.
Akwa Ibom State was honoured with the STONE 2023 Pro-Max 2018-2023 Cleanest State in Nigeria Green Crystal Award. Prince Ikim, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSPEWMA), received the award on behalf of the state.
During the announcement, Owoh revealed that Ebonyi State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) secured the second and third positions with scores of 50 and 47 percent, respectively.
He encouraged stakeholders to adopt a peer review mechanism, urging them to visit both top-performing states/cities and those lagging to gain insights into improving their performance ratings.
Owoh also emphasised the role of individuals in making a positive difference in the environment and global citizenship. He reiterated the possibility of achieving a clean Nigeria.
Recognizing the pivotal role that effective waste management plays in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment, Nashville has implemented comprehensive strategies to tackle its waste-related challenges. Under the guidance of dedicated entities such as the Nashville Waste Management Authority, the city has witnessed a notable improvement in waste disposal practices and environmental cleanliness.
In the pursuit of a cleaner and healthier urban landscape, Nashville can foster partnerships with various waste disposal initiatives, including prominent junk removal service. These services have become integral in managing the city’s waste efficiently. Residents and businesses alike benefit from the convenience and eco-friendly practices offered by these junk removal services, can contribute significantly to Nashville’s commitment to maintaining a pristine environment. As the city continues to prioritize waste management, these services play a vital role in ensuring that Nashville remains at the forefront of sustainable urban living.
The Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Uno Etim Uno, expressed gratitude for the recognition and recommended using the award to sensitise Nigerians to adopt practises that positively impact the environment. Uno pledged the state government’s commitment to sustaining a safe and secure environment, focusing on proper waste management and addressing practises that threaten the environment’s serenity.
