Dr Dipo Awojide, a Senior Lecturer in Strategy at Nottingham Business School (UK), the Founder of BTDT Hub and BTDT Home Tutors, a renowned Careers and Personal Development Coach and a Twitter enthusiast has asked the Nigerian government to act and give in to all the demands of young people.

In his words, “This issue is getting out of hands. The police/federal govt need to brief citizens at least every 8-10 hours to demonstrate some seriousness. It’s looking like people won’t give up protesting. No need to bring in the Army. This will most certainly lead to loss of lives. #SWATMUSTEND and the IG of Police must go #SWATMUSTEND #EndSWAT ✊🏾”

In supporting the Nigerian youths, the career and personal development coach said; “One minute you’re calling young Nigerians lazy, and easily distracted for spending so much time watching Big Brother Naija.
Next minute you’re trying to beg them endlessly to stop protesting and leave the streets. Life comes at you very fast. #EndSWAT #SWATMUSTEND”

He has also disclosed that one of the tactics of the Nigerian government is to make the issue they are tackling an ethnic and tribe issue. He warns the protesters not to fall for the ethnic baiting, instead they should focus on the main goal which is to end police brutality.

“Try not to fall for the ethnic baiting. Don’t make this issue about one tribe vs another tribe. FOCUS on the demands. #EndSWAT #SWATMUSTEND ✊🏾. Don’t fall for or be distracted by the divide and conquer plan. Focus on the main goals – #EndSWAT #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria ✊🏾✊🏾”

Dr Dipo Awojide has told Nigerian youths what the Nigerian government will most likely accuse them for. He has however advised the protesters to be vigilant and always gather evidences, and they should not forget why they are doing this because justice must be served for those who have lost their lives to this cause.

“If you didn’t know this was going to get to payment of thugs to disrupt those protesting, then, you haven’t been living in Nigeria or paying attention in the last 5 years. Now, the police and government will try to say protesters attacked innocent people in Abuja. #EndSWAT

“You will be accused of violence, attacking innocent people, and destroying government asset and infrastructure. Then, soldiers might be sent out to the streets. Gather your evidences. Pictures, videos. Keep them. #EndSWAT #SWATMUSTEND. Arrest and parade the killers of Jimoh Isiaq. #EndSWAT #SARAMUSTEND ✊🏾”

The lecturer and Twitter enthusiast has also made his intentions clear, he said his goal is the same as everybody’s- To end SARS. He also made it known that he does not want to be on the panelists list.

“I have thought about the past 24 hours and would like to apologise to everyone for my proposed list which didn’t include my humble self.
However noble my intentions, they were misplaced, unrepresentative of our course and has distracted from the goal. This is regretted. My support to our collective goal remains unwavering to #EndSWAT #EndSARSNOW #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITYINNIGERIA. I don’t want to be a saviour on this SARS issue.I have a proper career.

I am not an activist. I am a common lecturer.

I am not seeking to profit from the pains of people or build a career from this.

I created a list to ensure ACTION but left out some people who are now angry.”

They wanted to calm us down. We said no promises. Just go and ACT and mood will change. Is this wrong?”

Award-winning Nigerian rapper, actor and singer Folarin Falana professionally known as Falz has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the letter titled: “REQUEST FOR RECONSTITUTION OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION FOR THE DISCHARGE OF ITS FUNCTIONS WITH RESPECT TO CASES OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN NIGERIA,” he demands for a reconstitution of the governing council of the National Human Rights Commission
“It has been brought to my knowledge via a statement by your Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, that the Federal Government has accepted the 5-point request of the ENDSARS protests presented by well-meaning Nigerian youths. This statement went on to state that there will be an independent investigation panel to look into the violations of Human Rights by the defunct SARS and other segments of the Nigeria Police.

Quoting Mr Adeshina’s statement: “the Forum agrees to the setting up of this independent panel by the National Human Rights Commission within the next one week’.

“As it stands now, the National Human Rights Commission has remained without the Governing Council since 2015 and still remains without it The unfortunate circumstance has led to the aggravation of human rights abuse,”

It is pertinent to note that Section 5 of the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Act 2010 empowers the National Human Rights Commission itself to receive complaints and investigate all alleged cases of human rights violation in Nigeria and mak appropriate recommendations to the president.

The detailed and concise provisions of this section adequately empower the Human Rights Commission to look into these cases by itself. The commission need not set up another panel for the exercise of its functions.
More importantly, the National Human Rights Commission ought to have a Governing council under Section 2 of the National Human Rights Commision (Amendment) Act consisting of the following people:

(a) a chairman who shall be a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria or the Court of Appeal or a retired judge of th High Court of a State;
(b) a representative each of the following Federal Ministries-
(i) Justice; (ii) Foreign Affairs; (iii) Internal Affairs;
(c) three representatives of registered human rights organisations in Nigeria;
(d) two legal practitioners who shall not have less than ten years post qualification experience;
(e) three representatives of the media, at least two of whom shall be from the private seector.
(f) three other persons to represent a variety of interests; and
(g) the executive secretary of the commission.

According to section 7(3) of the National Human Right Commission Act, the Executive Secretary of the Commission does not have the power to act without a Governing Council.
In the light of the foegoing, I hereby call on Your Excellency to immediately reconstitute the Governing Council of the National Human RIghts Commission and to do so publicly as well as transparently in order to restore the confidence of young Nigerians in your proposed police reform process.

“Failure to do this would force young Nigerians to believe that the continuous refusal to re-constitute the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission is a deliberate attempt to mislead us into thinking genuine efforts are being made at reforming the Nigeria Police, when in truth the opposite is the case.”

I am confident that Your Excellency will grant my humble request in order to guarantee the protection of the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians”

“ I’m an actor, not a criminal” – Nse Ikpe-Etim Reveals

The protest demanding for the eradication of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, has been going on for 10 days now. While some are protesting on the streets, others have taken to social media to continue raising awareness as to why SARS needs to be disbanded.

Nigerian actress, Nse Ikpe Etim reveals she is not a criminal, and should not be treated as such. She disclosed this while telling Nigerian youth to copy the tweet, and tell the Nigerian Government who exactly they are.
“My name is Nse Ikpe-Etim. I’m an actor, not a criminal. Copy this tweet and edit with your name and profession. Let’s show these people who we are.”

The award winning actress expresses how displeased she is about the Nigerians being killed during the peaceful protest. In her words, “I’m sick to my stomach. Innocent and unarmed people are getting killed for demanding a better life from the people that should be protecting them. Oh wow. I have no words”

Nse Ikpe-Etim did not leave those complaining about traffic and the older generation out of her slam, “We are fighting to keep a generation alive, you are complaining about traffic. You may as well turn off your engine… To the people whose daily activities were disrupted due to protest blockades. Sorry for the inconvenience, we are trying to change the country. It will benefit you too.

Shocked that the Nigerian Government is not saying much about the ongoing protest, Nse Ikpe-Etim says she expects to hear from President Muhammadu Buhari, and by now the Government ought to have declared a state of emergency. “We’re not settling. We have a Commander-in-Chief and that’s who we expect to hear from in a situation of this magnitude.

Speak up sir @MBuhari.
There is an unrest in the country. Nigerians are on the streets begging for their lives and the @NGRPresident is not declaring a state of emergency? Wow.

#EndSarsProtests”

Talking about unconventional career paths, the uber talented actress says Nigerian police must learn to live with it, and that all professions matter. “We must normalize unconventional career paths. Not everyone is a doctor and engineer. All professions matter. Bloggers, web developers, influencer, models, digital marketers etc. These jobs come with unconventional lifestyles that the Nigerian Police must live with. #EndSarsNow”

She also urged the Nigerian Youth to brace themselves, because the fight is for everyone that has lost their lives for these cause. She also celebrated the resilient spirit of the Nigerian youths. These were her exact words; “We cannot lose this fight. If not for anything, for Jimoh Isiaq and every other person whose lives have been prematurely taken by the rogues called policemen.

We are not here to play. Enough is enough! Kudos to everyone showing up and showing out. Resilience is the word. #EndSarsNow IS THE MESSAGE. Up and back at it. Whoever thinks we will be tired should get ready for a big disappointment. Criminal policemen MUST be off the streets completely.

#EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality”
