Billel Benhamouda, an Algerian and USM Alger player has died in an automobile accident.
Benhamouda, 24, played and scored in a friendly match against DR Congo on Thursday and is a regular with the Algerian B team.
He was in the company of his friend when the accident happened. The road traffic accident happened in the Dowada region of the country, west of capital Algiers.
Benhamouda had scored the second goal for Algeria in a preparatory friendly game for the home-based players as they prepare for the CHAN championship.
The midfielder was also hoping to gate crash into the 2023 Algerian squad for the AFCON.
His death has left African football in pain as they deal with the devastating effect of Benhamouda’s unfortunate demise.
