Algerian PM Nadir Larbaoui Resigns, President Delays Response Due to Ongoing Urgent Matters

Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui has submitted his cabinet’s resignation, but President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has postponed his response to focus on pressing matters that require the expertise of current ministers, the presidency said.

The resignation follows Algeria’s presidential election on 7 September, where Tebboune secured a second term in office, winning 84.30% of the vote according to the constitutional court. The final voter turnout was reported at 46.10% by state media.

Tebboune, who enjoys backing from the military, faced limited opposition in the election, with rival candidates Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, a moderate Islamist, and Youcef Aouchiche, a moderate secularist, posing little challenge.

Hassani Cherif’s campaign had raised concerns over irregularities in the vote count, but the results stood, with him receiving 9.56% of the vote, while Aouchiche garnered 6.14%, according to state media.
