For a second successive Friday, Algerians trooped out on the street to protest against the government and the nation’s military.
Tired of the old order and calling on the military to quit politics, Algerians went into streets to call for an end to the current government.
Street movements had been a new cause last year but were stopped as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
There have been crackdowns on the protesters with the UN voicing against the treatment meted out on them by the country’s government.
While Police are lining streets in heavy numbers, protests have not been stopped but hundreds of protesters have been arrested in the country, to the chagrin of the UN Human Rights Commissioner office.
Algerians had ousted a President, Aldulaziz Bouteflika after protests in 2019. The protests continued afterwards for more than a year before the advent of coronavirus.
Nationals have accused the leadership of the country of corruption and incompetence with the election that brought in President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described as a ruse.
The UN has called for more respect of human rights by the Algerian government with many said to be suppressed.
