The just concluded Grammys held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, saw major pop culture highlights. From first-time winners to old faces like Celine Dion and Mariah Carey making appearances. What is an award ceremony without some drama?

Black women were not left out in the conversation as the likes of Sza, Coco Jones, Tyla, and Victoria Monét all won in their various categories. American R&B artiste Sza has won four out of her twenty-four Grammy nominations.

Former Disney stars Miley Cyrus and Coco Jones won their first-ever Grammys on the same night. Coco Jones earned an award for her breakout single ‘ICU’ in the category for Best R&B Performance. Miley Cyrus, now a 2-time Grammy winner, won both awards for her 2023 smash hit ‘Flowers.’

South Africa’s Tyla also won her first ever Grammy award with her hit single ‘Water’ in the category for Best African Music Performance after defeating Afrobeats artistes Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Asake, Olamide, and fellow South African artiste Musa Keys.

Victoria Monét had an ecstatic night as she received three Grammy Awards in the categories of Best New Artiste, Best R&B Album, and Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

The American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has yet again set another Grammy Award record as she becomes the only person with most Album of the Year wins. The 14-time Grammy winner graced the ceremony in a black-and-white Schiaparelli gown announced that she would be releasing her 11th studio album titled ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ in April 2024.

During his acceptance speech, as the recepient of the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, Black American rapper Jay Z called out the Grammys over Beyoncé’s Album of the Year snub. To yet another drama, minutes after his big win at the ceremony, US rapper Killer Mike was taken away in handcuffs by the police and booked for alleged physical altercation backstage.
