A woman identified as Toyin, who who got mobbed while attempting to abduct an eight-month-old baby in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State, has died in the hospital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on Thursday.
He said Toyin, the alleged kidnapper was hospitalised at the Federal Medical Center, Ebute-Meta, after getting badly burnt by an angry mob that caught her engaging in the illicit act.
“The lady has died in hospital,”Hundeyin said. The suspect was said to have entered the residence of the baby’s mother in search of her husband, one Akeem.
When she informed that her husband was not on the premises and subsequently advised to leave, Toyin left the building but lurked around the neighbourhood.
The moment the only adult with the children left, the alleged kidnapper returned into the building and was said to have attempted stealing a baby.
An 11-year-old girl, who was in the company of the children, prevented her and raised the alarm, before residents of the community stormed the house to apprehend Toyin.
Hundeyin had said Toyin sustained severe burns during the attack and was hospitalised
