Finnish telecoms firm Nokia announced on Monday that it had settled with Amazon after suing the tech giant over alleged patent infringements related to video technologies.
In a statement released on Monday, March 31, 2025, Nokia confirmed that it had signed a patent licencing agreement with Amazon, covering the use of its video technology in Amazon’s streaming services and devices.
The deal effectively resolves all outstanding legal disputes between the two companies, though the terms of the agreement will remain confidential.

Nokia had launched legal action against Amazon in October 2023, filing lawsuits across five jurisdictions—Britain, the European Union’s patent court, Germany, India, and the United States.
The complaints alleged that Amazon’s Prime Video service and various devices had infringed on Nokia’s patents related to video compression, content delivery, content recommendation, and certain hardware components.
The Finnish company had also taken similar legal action against HP, formerly known as Hewlett-Packard, in the US over the alleged unauthorised use of its video technology. That case was resolved in October 2024, with a separate settlement.
