Amiens resign Ghanaian centre-back Opoku

Black Stars centre-back Nicholas Opoku has signed for French Ligue 2 side Amiens on a season long loan again from Serie A outfit Udinese.

Opoku moved from Tunisian side Club Africain to Italian side Udinese in the summer of 2018.

The centre-back played seven times for Amiens before the Coronavirus outbreak in March which led to the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season.

Opoku made a return to Udinese at the end of his loan deal with the French outfit, but has now made yet another temporary loan deal with Amiens with an option to make the deal a permanent one.

“Amiens SC and Udinese have agreed to loan Nicholas Opoku,” the statement from the club website read.

“Amiens SC are pleased to announce the return to the club of Nicholas Opoku. Already loaned to Amiens SC last season, Nicholas Opoku returns to Picardy for this new 2020-2021 season.”

“Welcome home Nicholas!

His parent club Udinese also had a statement on their website wishing the Ghanaian international the best of luck.

“Udinese Calcio announces the transfer of the player Nicholas Opoku to Amiens Sporting Club Football, upon the achievement of certain conditions.” The statement read.

“Good luck to Nicholas from the club for his new experience”.

Opoku joins national teammate Emmanuel Lomotey who moved to Amiens from Spanish Segunda Division side Extremadura UD on a four-year deal.

The Ghanaian international defender started his career with Kumasi Corner Babies, before he made the move to Berekum Chelsea in 2016.

He played with Berekum Chelsea for a season before moving to Tunisia to play for North African giants Club Africain, making 18 appearances for the club before he made the move to Italian side Udinese Calcio.

The 23-year-old has played for Ghana at different age categories, featuring in the national teams U17’s and U20’s and in July 2017, he made his international debut against the United States.

Opoku has made four international appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and will need to play consistently with his new French club Amiens to earn more call ups for his national team.
