Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and called for urgent international intervention to halt the escalating humanitarian crisis.
In its latest report, “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” Amnesty highlighted systemic attacks on civilians and infrastructure alongside dehumanising statements from Israeli officials as evidence of genocidal intent.
Since October 2023, over 44,580 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed, and more than 105,700 injured, according to the report. “Month after month, Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them” said Amnesty Chief Agnes Callamard. “Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now,” it added.
The findings are based on satellite imagery, witness testimonies, field investigations, and statements from Israeli officials. The report documented 15 airstrikes between October 2023 and April 2024 that killed 334 Palestinian civilians, including 141 children, with no identified military targets.
Amnesty also criticised inflammatory rhetoric from Israeli officials, calling it evidence of systemic impunity and genocidal intent. Callamard urged nations to stop arms transfers to Israel, highlighting obligations under the Genocide Convention.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry dismissed the report as fabricated and false, defending its actions as measures of self-defence against Hamas attacks. It accused Amnesty of bias and ignoring the October 7 massacre committed by Hamas.
Amnesty called for urgent international action, warning that delays in enforcing a ceasefire and continued arms supplies to Israel could result in complicity in genocide.
