Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will speak with Alejandro Garnacho after the Argentine stormed down the tunnel following his controversial substitution in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich.
Garnacho was withdrawn late in the first half for Noussair Mazraoui after Patrick Dorgu’s red card forced Amorim to reshuffle his team. Instead of joining his teammates on the bench, the 20-year-old headed straight for the dressing room, prompting boos from United fans.
After the match, Garnacho posted an Instagram story of himself walking dejectedly in the rain, adding to speculation about his frustration.
“It was cold and wet, maybe,” Amorim joked when asked about the incident.

He explained his decision to remove Garnacho: “We had to adjust to a 5-3-1. I know it’s risky to take off one of our only one-on-one threats, but I felt the team was controlling the game well.”
When pressed on whether he was unhappy with Garnacho’s reaction, Amorim responded by referencing Marcus Rashford, who recently left for Aston Villa on loan after the United boss lost patience with his attitude.
“You’re making a connection with Rashford, right? I know, I know,” Amorim said. “I’ll talk to Garnacho about it, and if you want, we can discuss it at the next press conference.”
Despite the drama, United secured only their fifth league win under Amorim, recovering from an early defensive error that saw Jaden Philogene pounce on a mix-up between Dorgu and Andre Onana.
Sam Morsy’s own goal and a Matthijs de Ligt strike put United ahead before Dorgu’s red card for a foul on Omari Hutchinson. Ipswich equalised just before half-time when Philogene’s cross deceived Onana, but Harry Maguire’s header early in the second half sealed the three points.
Amorim defended Dorgu despite his costly mistakes: “Everyone thought, ‘Here we go again’ after that early goal, but we fought through it. Dorgu is a player I know well, and I’m sure he had no intent to harm anyone.”
