The Ondo State chapter of the Southwest Security Network Agency codenamed operation Amotekun has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old child.
Naija News understands that the suspect, Samuel Akpan, was arrested alongside seventeen other criminals in the state.
It was gathered that the suspect was nabbed after he had completed a plan to sell the innocent child he kidnapped at the Alagbaka area of Akure, for ₦200,000.
Akpan and other suspects paraded before the local security agency’s headquarters on Tuesday, were allegedly involved in cultism, Internet fraud and kidnapping. They were arrested at different locations in the state, Naija News understands.
Confessing the crime he was accused of, Akpan said, “I was already on my way to sell the boy for N200,000 when I was arrested by a group of people and men of the Amotekun Corps.”
Addressing a press while parading the suspects on Tuesday, the state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said Akpan and other suspects arrested have been causing unrest in the state.
Some of the suspects, according to the commander, included Adegboro Opeyemi, Taopheek Yusuf, Micheal Olawole, Sadiku Kehinde, Sule Kabiru, Adetula Ayodeji, Olatokunbo Taiwo, Suleman and Ayuba Imoleayo.
“Over the last two months, we have been on the field and many criminals have been apprehended. As you can see, their crimes range from kidnapping to robbery, housebreaking, rape and even Internet fraud,” Adeleye noted.
He added: “We have a number of criminals that are here who are going through different stages of interrogation and awaiting prosecution.
“We also have someone who kidnapped a four-year-old boy with the help of the people around. We were able to apprehend him and rescue the victim.”
The commander said the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigations.
Meanwhile, no fewer than ten Muslim worshippers have been killed by armed bandits in a recent attack in Katsina State, Naija News reports.
